Keene Housing required streetscape improvements for Harper Acres, a 112 unit community within the heart of Keene, New Hampshire. Stevens & Associates aligned with the goals of Keene Housing by providing site design, permitting and landscape architecture services for this project. The desired design did not meet the City of Keene city street current standards. S&A assisted Keene Housing through the ‘throw up’ process to acquire the street from the City of Keene.
Sustainability and long term operational costs were also prime concerns. The final concept was designed to maximize the number of parking spaces with less pavement creating green spaces in front of buildings and reducing future paving costs. Care was taken to create an aesthetically pleasing streetscape incorporating green belts and tree islands with a priority placed upon pedestrian safety and circulation.
