Dot’s Restaurant

When Hurricane Irene ripped through Vermont in August 2011, the Deerfield River in Wilmington swelled and rushed through downtown, damaging dozens of buildings and destroying others.

Dot’s Restaurant was among those buildings very badly damaged. Stevens & Associates led the stabilization of the existing structure and designed the renovations, providing architectural services as well as structural and civil engineering.

It was necessary to remove the existing building in pieces to rebuild the foundation, which needed to be fully replaced and flood-proofed.

The renovated restaurant has an expanded kitchen and more spacious dining room, although the total number of seats remained the same.

This project has won two awards: one for engineering excellence from the Vermont chapter of ACEC, and another for historic preservation from the Preservation Trust of Vermont
