This preservation project at the Herreshoff Marine Museum was partially funded with federal grants. The two- and three-story wood framed manufacturing buildings included the Herreshoff House (1800), the Burnside Machine Shop (1864-1890), the Boiler Shop (1900), the Old Store House (1900), the Forge Shop (1900), the Sail Loft (1898), and the Office (1880). Our firm served as preservation consultant to the museum, who acted as their own project manager for the renovations.
Visitors enjoy the exhibits of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company’s historic maritime designs, the regularly hosted classic yacht regattas, symposiums on classic yacht design and restoration, and the sailing school for youth and adults. It is also a popular place for weddings and other events due to the multipurpose design, making the Herreshoff Marine Museum a bustling center of activity.
