The Little Compton Historical Society Archives Barn involved the relocation of the colonial period post and beam Gould barn from Topsfield, Massachusetts to Little Compton, Rhode Island. The barn had to be dismantled, transported, and reassembled at the historical society’s property. The project Stevens & Associates tackled also included a new shed addition, matching the historic character of the barn. It also featured discreetly placed climate control and lighting systems installed to protect archives and display historic artifacts. The barn expands the display space for the Wilbur Homestead Museum, and provides storage and archival research areas.
Later modifications such as the Victorian period trim and cupola were eliminated, restoring the original appearance of the barn.
The project won an award from the Newport Historical Society.
