Custom House Square

The mixed-use Custom House Square project designed the renovation and reuse of a former YMCA facility into a physical and occupational therapy center and into retail storefronts along the main street of the historic district in Bristol, Rhode Island.

The project involved extensive restoration and restructuring of two historic landmark buildings, along with the construction of a new building sensitive to the existing architecture.

Interior renovations included reclaiming attic space to create a full third floor.

Exterior aspects of the project involved duplicating elaborate brick masonry and cast iron detailing to reconstruct a missing 1857 facade of the Custom House Building, where a contemporary addition was demolished.
