Licensed Landscape Architect

We seek a Licensed Landscape Architect who embraces new challenges, values being part of a team, is looking for a diverse work experience, and has a passion for creating projects with lasting community impacts. This role combines landscape architecture and project management duties. The ideal candidate will have experience being responsible for bringing projects through to completion and enjoy collaborating across disciplines. Although Stevens & Associates has a hybrid remote working model, we seek candidates who can do some in-person work.


The Licensed Landscape Architect is a person who holds a license in Landscape Architecture and has experience in Project Management. They will be expected to understand our standards and systems for completing design projects and be responsible for carrying projects through to completion
of construction.

Our projects range from revitalizing a defunct historic downtown hotel to rehabilitating Vermont’s Bennington Battle Monument to creating site plans for many of the mixed-use building projects in our region. Whatever project you work on, we want you to bring enthusiasm for problem solving, along with strong organizational and communication skills. Receiving feedback and collaborating with team members is essential.

We value real-world experience and seek someone with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the following areas:

  • Project Management
  • Pedestrian, street, and parking design
  • Conceptual design a permit feasibility
  • Detailed grading and drainage
  • Specifications and Construction Documents
  • Creation of rendered drawings

We specifically want to speak with people who have a passion for revitalizing small towns with New Urbanist interest or training.


  • Design and production on a wide range of project sizes and types, from concept design through construction
  • Timely and accurate completion of projects as described in the client contract
  • Participation in bringing work into the firm

Project Management

  • Project Management duties including staffing needs, project budget, and invoicing
  • Connects with clients and understands their needs; develops project’s purpose and needs
  • Understands project needs regarding planning, feasibility, and finances; can assist with addressing those needs
  • Manages projects to meet owner and company’s goals
  • Responsible for working with regulators, public and others, to facilitate the project
  • Understanding of environmental permitting and the impact on designing and completing projects
  • Partners with Owner’s design team for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating multiple aspects of projects
  • Communicates effectively with clients and other team members to resolve project issues
  • Assists clients with selection of contractors/design professionals


  • Present and explain designs and provide service to meet client’s goals
  • Responsible for the project’s technical accuracy and professional standards of products
  • Participates with other members of the design team to finalize project designs
  • As part of the construction administration team, effectively communicates with contractors to implement plan design
  • Reviews and responds to construction related RFIs and submittals
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned


  • Is familiar with project budgets, pricing, and invoicing
  • Significant technical knowledge recognizing when problems are developing and initiating appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
  • Comprehensive understanding of all areas of design and various design methods
  • Thorough knowledge and interpretation of code compliance requirements and industry standards
  • Proficient with hand graphics and planting plans
  • Proficient in redlining drawings and managing other staff to complete CAD drafting of plans; proficiency in AutoCAD a plus
  • Proficiency in SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, along with other modeling and graphic software preferred
  • Be a team player

  • Substantial authority to meet with prospective clients and represent the firm
  • Develops fees for new projects which are reviewed and approved by the Team Leader
  • On projects they manage, has authority concerning cost, design, and schedule for the project; see Standard Design Process


  • Works directly with Team Leader and/or a principal of the firm and often will assist in securing large projects
  • Coordinates with Team Leader in assigning duties to project team members
  • Directs the work of other project team members on a weekly basis to complete project work


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Landscape Architecture
  • A professional Licensure in Landscape Architecture (or the ability to gain licensure in the near future)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience
