  • Putney Road Master Plan

    by admin • August 23, 2011 •

After leading a public participation process with the Putney Road Business Association and the Brattleboro Town Planning Office, Stevens & Associates developed a master plan to transform the Putney Road commercial strip north of town into a mixed-use, urban town center. The plan provides a roadmap to guide public investment and regulations and influence private land development decisions.

Stevens & Associates’ plan calls for a 300% increase in commercial square footage and the addition of over 1,000 residential units organized around a central boulevard and a network of side streets. The plan includes high-density, residential development with community open spaces and pedestrian and bicycle access.

Instead of the current, customary, four-lane highway separating two strips of single-story, commercial development with parking in front, the plan uses three-story buildings, wide sidewalks, and parking located at the rear of buildings and on the street. Such a setup would create an active streetscape and a livable community with increased real estate values.
